Smart D8 Partners with The Liberties Festival to Deliver Three Free Community Events

Smart D8 is delighted to once again partner with The Liberties Festival to deliver three free community events as part of this year’s festival programme. Taking place across the festival weekend, the events aim to bring people together through creativity, physical activity and shared community experiences, while encouraging greater use of local public spaces.

Working alongside local partners, the programme has been designed to provide accessible, inclusive opportunities for people of all ages to connect with one another and celebrate the vibrant communities of Dublin 8.

Banner Bash: Celebrating Identity, Belonging and Community

The weekend begins with Banner Bash, a collaborative flag-making workshop that explores themes of identity, belonging and community.

Young people will design and create individual fabric pieces before combining them into one shared community flag. Through this creative process, participants are encouraged to reflect on what connects them to their neighbourhood and to one another. The finished artwork will celebrate the many different voices, experiences and cultures that make up Dublin 8, while fostering a sense of pride, ownership and collective identity.

Smart D8 will also host a free 3v3 Football and Basketball Tournament for young people in Michael Mallin Park.

Alongside promoting physical activity, the tournament aims to encourage positive use of public space by activating the park as a welcoming place for young people to meet, play and socialise. By providing free, informal sporting opportunities within the local community, the event supports physical and mental wellbeing while strengthening social connections in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Smart D8 would like to thank The Liberties Festival, our community partners, volunteers and local organisations whose collaboration has made this year’s programme possible.

We look forward to welcoming everyone across the festival weekend.
